Supporting Your Journey Between Sessions
Evidence-Informed Care Continuity for Established Clients
At ZipHealthy, we understand that healing and growth happen between scheduled therapy sessions. Our structured telephone support services provide established clients with continuity of care, helping you maintain progress and navigate challenges between your comprehensive video therapy or in-person appointments. Research demonstrates that brief between-session contacts significantly increase therapy adherence and reduce relapse rates (Mohr et al., 2012, JAMA Psychiatry).
Note: This service is only available when clinically indicated as part of an established treatment plan and is not a substitute for comprehensive therapy sessions.
Understanding Telephone Support Services
Our telephone support services complement your primary treatment plan by providing structured check-ins between formal therapy sessions. These brief, focused calls help maintain continuity of care and provide targeted support during your treatment journey. These calls supplement—but do not replace—your comprehensive video therapy or in-person sessions.
Legal Disclaimer: Telephone support services are not emergency services. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988. Our telephone support is only available to established clients with an active treatment plan and is provided at the discretion of your treatment provider when clinically appropriate.

- Skill Reinforcement: Brief practice of techniques learned in therapy to strengthen neural pathways and improve retention (shown to significantly increase skill mastery in clinical studies)
- Progress Monitoring: Structured measurement of treatment plan adherence to quickly address barriers (research shows this can reduce overall treatment duration)
- Resource Deployment: Just-in-time connection to appropriate community supports when needed (studies show significant reduction in emergency service utilization)
- Documentation Integration: All telephone support interactions are fully documented in your secure health record to maintain continuity with your primary provider

What Clinical Consultation Is & Who It Helps
Clinical consultation at ZipHealthy is a brief, scheduled phone or secure-video contact that supports the work you are already doing in therapy. It is not a stand-alone course of treatment and it is not a substitute for a full session. Instead, think of it as a structured bridge between your regular appointments — a focused 15- to 30-minute conversation with a licensed clinician that helps you stay on track with the goals, skills, and safety plan you developed together during your comprehensive video or in-person sessions. Because we are a licensed clinical social work (LCSW) psychotherapy practice in downtown Bentonville, every consultation is psychosocial and therapeutic in nature; our clinicians do not prescribe or adjust medication, and any medication questions are referred to your primary care provider or prescriber.
This service is designed for established clients — people who already have an active treatment plan with one of our therapists — and is offered when it is clinically indicated. It tends to help most when life moves faster than the gap between appointments. You might benefit from clinical consultation if you:
Need support between sessions
A difficult week, an unexpected stressor, or a flare in anxiety or low mood arrives before your next scheduled appointment, and a brief check-in helps you apply what you have been practicing rather than waiting it out alone.
Are stabilizing after a hard period
You and your therapist have built a safety or coping plan, and a short follow-up call reinforces it, confirms the plan is working, and connects you with the right next step if it is not.
Want accountability for between-session work
Therapeutic "homework" — thought records, exposure steps, behavioral activation, communication practice — sticks better with a brief accountability touchpoint to troubleshoot barriers.
Have a packed or unpredictable schedule
Travel, caregiving, shift work, or a demanding job can make a full session hard to reach some weeks. A short phone contact keeps continuity intact without requiring a commute to Suite #270.
Important: clinical consultation is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If a crisis is unfolding and you are not yet an established client, our crisis & stabilization support page explains how to reach appropriate help.
What to Expect — How a Consultation Works
Because clinical consultation builds on an existing treatment plan, it is intentionally simple to set up and easy to use. Here is the typical path from request to follow-up.
Confirm it fits your plan
Your therapist confirms a brief consultation is clinically appropriate for your goals. New to ZipHealthy? Start with a free 15-minute consultation or a full individual therapy intake first.
Schedule the call
Book online or call (479) 259-1390. You will receive a confirmation and, for video, a secure HIPAA-compliant link. We confirm a phone number where you can speak privately.
The focused contact
In 15–30 minutes your clinician reviews how you are doing, reinforces a specific skill, troubleshoots a barrier, and confirms the next concrete step — all anchored to your existing plan.
Documentation & follow-up
The contact is documented in your secure record so it stays connected to your care, and any changes flow into your next full session.
A consultation is short by design. To make the most of the time, it helps to come with one or two specific things you want to focus on — a situation you are stuck on, a skill you want to practice, or an obstacle that came up since your last session. Your clinician will keep the conversation structured so you leave with a clear, doable next step rather than an open-ended discussion. Everything shared is held to the same confidentiality standards as the rest of your care; while no method of communication can be promised to be perfectly secure, we use HIPAA-compliant tools and never share personal or health information without your written consent (this is a description of our practice, not a legal guarantee).
Our Approach & the Modalities Behind It
Clinical consultation works because it extends evidence-informed therapy modalities into the moments where they matter most — daily life between appointments. The brief contact does not introduce a new treatment; it reinforces the same approach your therapist is already using with you. Common modalities we draw on include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Between-session check-ins are a natural fit for CBT, which relies on practicing skills and completing structured exercises outside the therapy room. The American Psychological Association describes CBT as an effective, well-studied approach for a range of concerns including anxiety and depression (APA). A short consultation helps you review a thought record or take the next exposure step rather than letting it slide until your next appointment.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills. For clients working on emotion regulation and distress tolerance, a brief contact is an opportunity to apply a specific skill in real time. If DBT is part of your plan, our DBT skills group pairs well with consultation between sessions.
Behavioral activation and mindfulness-based strategies. When low mood or stress makes it hard to follow through, a short, supportive call can help you re-engage with the activities and grounding practices that maintain progress. SAMHSA offers free, confidential help and treatment-referral information for mental health and substance use concerns through its National Helpline (SAMHSA).
Trauma-focused work, including EMDR therapy, is generally delivered in full sessions rather than brief consultations, but a between-session contact can still help you use the grounding and stabilization skills your therapist taught you. Whatever the modality, the consultation always stays within scope as psychosocial support: we coordinate with your primary care provider or prescriber when a medication question arises, and we never offer medical diagnosis or medication advice.
Format & Logistics
By Phone or Secure Video
Consultations happen by telephone or HIPAA-compliant video, so you can connect from wherever you can speak privately. If you prefer to be seen in person for your full sessions, our office is at 240 S Main Street, Suite #270 in downtown Bentonville, and consultations supplement that in-person care.
In-Person & Statewide Telehealth
We serve clients in person in Bentonville and across Northwest Arkansas, and by secure telehealth throughout Arkansas. Telehealth requires that you be physically located in a state where your clinician is licensed at the time of the contact.
Insurance, Sliding Scale & Your Good Faith Estimate
ZipHealthy is a Blue Cross Blue Shield preferred provider and works with most major insurance plans; many insured clients have an out-of-pocket cost in the range of $20–$40 per session. We also offer a limited sliding scale based on need, so cost does not have to be a barrier to staying in care. You can see typical fees and how billing works on our pricing & what to expect and therapy cost in Arkansas pages.
If you are uninsured or paying out of pocket, you are entitled under the federal No Surprises Act to a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before you begin. Just ask and we will provide one in writing.
