Your first therapy session at ZipHealthy lasts 60 minutes and is dedicated entirely to a comprehensive Bio-Psycho-Social assessment. This evidence-informed clinical framework examines every dimension of your well-being to create a truly personalized treatment plan.
- Welcome & Intake Paperwork (5-10 minutes) You'll arrive a few minutes early to complete any remaining consent forms and intake paperwork. Our staff will greet you, confirm your insurance or payment information, and make you comfortable before your clinician begins.
- Biological Assessment (10-15 minutes) Your clinician explores the physical and medical factors that may influence your mental health. This includes medical history and current health conditions, medications (prescription and over-the-counter), sleep patterns and quality, appetite and nutritional habits, substance use history, family medical and psychiatric history, and neurological considerations. Understanding your biology is essential — many mental health symptoms have physiological components that must be addressed for effective treatment.
- Psychological Assessment (15-20 minutes) This is the core clinical evaluation of your mental and emotional functioning. Your clinician will assess your current symptoms and presenting concerns, mood, affect, and thought patterns, cognitive functioning and concentration, coping mechanisms and stress responses, trauma history (at your own pace), previous mental health treatment and outcomes, and validated screening tools may be administered. This portion helps your clinician understand not just what you're experiencing, but how you process and respond to challenges.
- Social Assessment (10-15 minutes) Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. Your clinician examines the social and environmental factors shaping your well-being, including family dynamics and relationship quality, social support network, work or school environment and stressors, cultural and community context, housing stability and financial considerations, and legal or systemic issues affecting your life.
- Clinical Formulation & Next Steps (5-10 minutes) Your clinician synthesizes everything from the biological, psychological, and social domains into a unified clinical picture. Together, you'll discuss initial impressions and areas of focus, recommended treatment approach and therapy modality, session frequency (typically weekly to start), and specific goals for your therapeutic journey. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your treatment direction and your next appointment scheduled.
